Casco Viejo has several attractions that you shouldn’t miss and can easily cover in a short walk. A monument to the French entrepreneurs who began the Panama Canal stands at the bayside end of the Casco Viejo.

At the Rain forest Discovery Center you will enjoy a spectacular view of the forest and canopy bird species from a 100 ft. high observation tower. There are also hummingbird feeders where you can see and photograph up to 10 different species of the tiny acrobats!

Amazing Caribbean beaches and world cuisine, and out of this world gourmet chocolate. It’s the place where the lush tropical jungle meets the sand and Afro-Caribbean people have paired with the local Indigenous communities and European immigrants to create a wonderfully cosmopolitan Caribbean town where you can experience a deep respect for nature, peace and calm.

Have the opportunity to visit the Village of Tortuguero along with your guide and group. Through this visit, learn about the ways of life of the local residents of Tortuguero, a small town of approx. 1300 people. After the visit and some free time, you will return back to the Lodge walking by the beach trail leading to the Lodge.

Turtle nesting tour

Tortuguero is one of the most important sites on the Western Hemisphere for the nesting of sea turtles. Four out of the seven sea turtle world species come to Tortuguero to nest. Moreover, 3 of these species are in high danger of extinction, so no scheduled tours are available. We offer nesting tours for the green sea turtles that come to nest between July and October.

Go on a visit to the “Mawamba Park”, a private facility in the Lodge’s gardens that features two butterfly farms, a frog garden and river turtle’s area. This visit is combined with a walk in the trails at the Lodge.

From Tortuguero, you have a scenic road trip to Arenal, where you will continue your journey into lowland plains amid tropical farmlands. A driver will pick you up at El Ceibo Restaurant, after enjoying a delicious lunch.

Morning horseback ride or trek to La Fortuna Waterfall and Indigenous Village, you will see the spectacular Arenal Volcano and dormant Cerro Chato Volcano off in the distance with gorgeous green countryside all around.

This day you will be travel from Arenal to Peñas Blancas, the border with Nicaragua to continue your journey along this country.

Discover the incredible nature, history, and culture of this enchanted island with this complete guided tour of Ometepes highlights.

Get underway at Finca Magdalena, a working community-run farm to observe hidden indigenous rock carvings. Continue to the Charco Verde Nature Reserve and Chico Largo lagoon, a peaceful lake that has inspired local legends before visiting Ojo de Agua, a lush natural spring, where you can take a refreshing swim.

The last stop pays homage to the island’s original inhabitants with a visit to the museum of Pre-Columbian artefacts which boasts many well-conserved indigenous statues and ceramics.

Experience the mystical cloud forest of this lush Nature Reserve atop a majestic volcano which boasts a wide variety of vegetation and wildlife. Explore the landscapes during a guided hike along the trail (1.5km) around the crater while enjoying the view of Granada, Laguna de Apoyo, Las Isletas and the Masaya volcano. Keep an eye out for the howler and white-faced monkeys, sloths, and the endemic Mombacho salamander.

Granada is one of the oldest colonial cities in the Americas, founded by the Spanish in 1524. No visit to Granada is complete without exploring the city’s historic center on foot and in a classic horse-drawn carriage.

Day 14: Masaya Highlights and Isletas
Day 14: Masaya Highlights and Isletas

After breakfast you will visit some of the cultural and natural highlights of Masaya region. In the afternoon you will take a tour by boat visiting some of the 360 little islands of volcanic located in the largest lake in Central America, Cocibolcas's Lake.

Situated at the foot of Mombacho volcano, Las Isletas consist of around 360 small forest-covered islands, formed by a volcanic eruption 20,000 years ago.
