Suchitoto is about 47 km north of the capital San Salvador, full colonial buildings like the church on the main plaza, and cobblestone streets. many places in town have a great view to Lake Suchitlan; Suchitlan Lake was formed between 1973 and 1976 for the construction of the hydroelectric dam Cerron Grande, is the largest lake in El Salvador, declared a Ramsar site for its importance in the conservation of birds, both migratory and resident and for its abundant and varied vegetation. Other interesting sites are: Home and museum Don Alejandro Cotto, House of Sculpture, Galleries, theater Las Ruinas or home of Culture and centre of arts and peace. Nearby day tours can be to the volcano Guazapa with ex guerilla member, Los Tercios waterfalls, archeological site of Cihuatan or the town and park of Cinquera.
